Our roots

Proudly from India

Our roots are in Tamil Nadu, India: the home of the Tamil language, of great temple towns such as Madurai and Thanjavur, of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam, and of the Nilgiri hills.

We carry India with us wherever we go: its warmth, its respect for elders and guests, and its spirit of unity in diversity. In Stockholm we are proud to be part of the Indian community, and to share India's rich culture with our Swedish neighbours.

  • Tamil, the language at the heart of our club, was the first language declared a classical language by the Government of India, in 2004.
  • Our mascot, the Nilgiri tahr, is the state animal of Tamil Nadu. It lives only in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Through culture, sport and family, we hope to be a small bridge of friendship between India and Sweden.
Our Origins & Growth

Welcome to STK IF – A Community for Everyone

Founded over a decade ago as Racketsports Club and journeying alongside SSK Club, our roots were built on energy, motion, and a shared passion for sports like cricket and badminton.

As our community grew, so did our vision. Today, we are proud to evolve into STK IF, broadening our horizon to embrace cultural activities, celebrations, and creative events. As more families, young couples, youth, and seniors have joined our journey, we’ve transformed into a true home away from home.

Our home is Botkyrka kommun, just south of Stockholm. Many of our families live here, and Botkyrka is where we meet, play and celebrate together, for example at Fittjaskolan in Fittja.

Botkyrka is known across Sweden as a place where many cultures meet and are made welcome. We are deeply grateful to Botkyrka kommun for its support of local associations and cultural life. That support gives families like ours the chance to share Tamil and Indian culture with our neighbours, and helps every generation feel at home in Sweden.

Living Heritage & Values

Our roots are in Tamil culture, one of the world's oldest living traditions. We carry its values with us: respect for elders, hospitality, togetherness, and wisdom passed down through timeless works like the Thirukkural. These values shape how we run our club and how we treat one another.

Part of Swedish Society

We see ourselves as an active part of Swedish society. We share Tamil culture with our neighbours, learn from Swedish communities and associations, and build meaningful friendships across backgrounds. For us, keeping our heritage alive and being an active part of Sweden go hand in hand.
